In celebration of its 40th Anniversary, the Plymouth Historical Society will dedicate a mural commemorating the 198 miners and 2 rescuers who lost their lives in the 1869 Avondale mining disaster, as well as all those who worked in the mines.
The dedication will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Avondale Mine Site and will be followed by the Plymouth Historical Society annual open house at 2 p.m. Our speakers will be Norm Barrett and David Skoniecki. Refreshments will follow, and admission is free.
The Avondale Mine Site is located off Route 11 in Plymouth Township. The Plymouth Historical Society is located at 115 Gaylord Avenue in Plymouth. For more information, call 570-779-5840.
