SCRANTON — Actors Circle will present Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People” at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road, Sept. 24-27 and Oct. 2-4. Thursday, Friday, and and Saturday performances begin at 7 p.m. and Sunday shows start at 2 p.m.
Directed by Paul Kantor, this timeless play considers the power of the elected elite over the lives of the electorate.
When Dr. Thomas Stockmann discovers that the town’s source of tourist money, the mineral baths, are contaminated, the mayor and his acolytes work to squelch this information and paint the doctor as “an enemy of the people.” The welfare of the people is not a concern of those in power, even though they hold elected positions. Dr. Stockman remains the one person who fights for the truth to be known.
