CLARKS SUMMIT — Do you want to expand your horizons and support your community? There are businesses all over Northeastern Pennsylvania that can help us improve lives and grow as individuals.
Jewish Family Service announced its spring program for its annual Grow Yourself Series. The quarterly event focuses on self-improvement and personal growth. JFS hosts workshops and seminars to provide tools, strategies and experiences for living a more empowered and fulfilling life.
“We try to partner with a business in the community to mix non-profit and for-profit ideas,” said Maggy Bushwick, adult services coordinator at JFS. “This makes for a stronger community and is a win-win for all involved. We get to learn something new and hopefully the business gets new customers.”
JFS is going to Thirteen Olives, 222 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit. The store sells some of the highest quality extra virgin olive oils in the world and a wide variety of balsamic vinaigrettes. Flavors including peach vinaigrette or a vinegar infused with lemon are for sale.
The event is from noon to 1 p.m on Wednesday, March 18.
“We hope people can maybe take a longer lunch break and come out to improve their life,” Bushwick said. “Everyone in the community is welcome.”
Thirteen Olives has around 60 oils and vinegar in their tasting room and are ready to share the health benefits that accompany the consumption of them. They will also be giving cooking tips and participants will have the opportunity to do some tasting and shopping.
“The store is a tasting room concept, so any customer can come in and taste the product,” said owner Eugene Litz. “With this group, I will talk more in depth about the product than what is normally done. We will talk about the different flavors, the health benefits such as the antioxidants. There will be a tour, some tasting and an explanation of it all.”
Admission is $15 for non-members of JFS and $10 for members. Reservations are required by calling 570-344-1186 or emailing Bushwick at mbushwick@jfsoflackawanna.org.
