WILKES-BARRE — Video game music may have started as bleeps and bloops, but as the industry evolved its soundtracks became orchestrated affairs worthy of their own CD releases. The orchestral event Video Games Live! celebrates arrangements from a number of franchises throughout gaming history, and on May 19, 2017, the show is coming to Wilkes-Barre’s F.M. Kirby Center.
Video Games Live! is a show consisting of a full orchestra, choir and special effects. Franchises represented include “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “Final Fantasy,” “Super Mario Bros.,” “The Legend of Zelda,” “Metal Gear Solid” and a classic arcade medley that breathes new life into those aforementioned bloops.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for pre-show activities, including game competitions, a costume contest, game demos and prizes. Musicians, including members of Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic, will take the stage at 8 p.m.
Tickets range from $19.95 to $79.95 plus fees and can be purchased starting 10 a.m. Dec. 9. A special pre-sale will go live for F.M. Kirby Center members only 10 a.m. Dec. 7. Both members and non-members can purchase tickets at KirbyCenter.org, by calling 570-826-1100 or by visiting the venue’s on-site box office at 71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre.
