The second annual Branderella Ball, designed to provide a stress-free night of music, laughter and togetherness for teenage foster children living in Luzerne County, will take place on Jan. 6 at the F.M. Kirby Center, 71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre.

The formal event is hosted by Flourish Wilkes-Barre, a non-profit community outreach organization, which is rallying community volunteers and businesses to participate in the Branderella Ball. The event is free of charged for the teens who will participate, and Flourish Wilkes-Barre is relying on the generosity of donors to facilitate the event.

Flourish’s partnership with Brandon’s Forever Home, a Hazleton-based nonprofit foundation created to raise awareness about children in foster care and their need for permanent, loving homes, results in the event’s namesake.

The Branderella Ball will provide gowns and formal wear, gourmet cuisine from local restaurants, hair and beauty treatments within the dressing rooms of the F.M. Kirby Center, photo booths and music. Local entertainer DJ NRG will provide music in the Chandelier Lobby.

Dr. Sara Moore, founder of Flourish Wilkes-Barre, has led teams of volunteers toward creating a memorable night. Local businesses Betelli’s Villa, Damon’s Hazelton, Bart & Urby’s, Mike Walton Productions, MCR Design Group, Shadowcatcher Photography, Heather Donadi’s Custom Chocolates and Genetti’s Best Western have already participated, and new volunteers and partners can still help in a number of ways.

“The beauty in planning this event can be seen in the diversity of our local volunteers, who all come together for the children, the future of our community,” Moore said in a press release. “Whether you have a car and could help with deliveries or want to help clean up and meet some like-minded, caring people, if you are willing to pitch in, we would love to have you on our team.”

The event organizers are still seeking volunteers, particularly for the hair and make-up team. They are also still seeking sponsors for men’s formal wear, appetizers and beverages. They encourage those eager to volunteer their time, services or supplies to message Flourish Wilkes-Barre on Facebook or e-mail Moore, via [email protected].

“We all want to make a difference in our communities, and the Branderella Ball is your chance,” said Justin Topa, a spokesperson for the event. “I hope our community continues to rally behind Flourish Wilkes-Barre and more of our neighbors join us in providing a positive, stress-free social experience for disadvantaged children.”

Foster children between the ages of 14 and 18 and their mentors or caseworkers are encouraged to register for this free event or learn more now at FlourishWilkesBarre.org.
