Country singer-songwriter and actor Dwight Yoakam will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 5 at the F.M. Kirby Center, 71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre, the downtown theater announced today.

Throughout a successful career, Yoakam has charted nearly 40 singles, sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and has won multiple Grammy Awards.

Yoakam’s Sirius XM channel, Dwight Yoakam and The Bakersfield Beat “Where Country Went Mod,” premiered in April. According to a press release from the Kirby Center, “the channel celebrates the Bakersfield sound and those whom it has inspired.”

Yoakam’s bluegrass album, “Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars …,” was released in 2016 and features a collection of reinterpreted favorites from his catalog as well as a cover of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

The band he employed for the album is comprised of “bluegrass luminaries,” the release states.

Yoakam’s acting career includes roles in “Sling Blade,” “Panic Room,” and more recently, Steven Soderbergh’s film, “Logan Lucky.”
