Poet Laurel Radzieski will read her works at Dietrich Theater’s Open Mic Night

Radzieski -

This month’s Open Mic Night at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock will feature Laurel Radzieski, a local poet and Dietrich Open Mic Night originator. She is the author of “Red Mother” (NYQ Books), her debut poetry collection, which she will share with the audience.

This Open Mic Night will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28 in the Dietrich’s Peg Fassett Performance Studio.

Radzieski is a poetry editor for Clockhouse and her work has appeared in The Golden Key, Really System, The Slag Review and other publications. Her poetry has also been featured on the Farm/Art DTour in La Rue, Wisconsin. Sge earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College and her BA from Keystone College. She has served as a teacher and has worn many hats in the theatre. She lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania and can be found online at www.laurelradzieski.com.

At Open Mic Night, Radzieski will read from “Red Mother,” a love story told from the perspective of a parasite. This series of short poems explores the intimacy, desire and devotion we all experience by following the sometimes tender, often distressing relationship that emerges between a parasite and its host. Far from romanticizing either role, “Red Mother” takes readers on a tour of their own innards, exposing the hooks and claws of all involved. Radzieski will also share new poems from an in-progress project and copies of Red Mother will be available for purchase.

Sign-ups are at 6:30 p.m. the night of Open Mic. The final Open Mic Night of the year will take place on Friday, Oct. 26 with storyteller Hal Pratt as the headliner.
