Officials of the NEPA Intergenerational Coalition, an arm of the Pittston Memorial Library (PML), have announced the 12th annual Grandparents Raising Grandchildren ( GRG) Conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 at Genetti’s Hotel and Conference Center.

The conference theme is Generations of Love. All grandparents or relative caregivers are admitted free and professional social service personnel will be charged $35 each.

Highlighting the conference as keynoter will be Luzerne County Judge Jennifer Rogers, Family Court Judge who has an knowledge about GRG. In addition, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Teresa Osborne will offer comments regarding the role of the Commonwealth in meeting the needs of GRG.

Following Osborne’s presentation, a panel of specialists will discuss the topic of Knowing Your Resources. This will include comments by representatives of the Family Service Association of NEPA, Children’s Service Center and the Pennsylvania Victims Compensation Assistance Program. Just prior to lunch, State Representative Eddie Day Pashinski of the 121st District will provide information about GRG legislative bills he is sponsoring. A hot lunch will be provided along with breakfast snacks.

The afternoon panel will include five attorneys in a legal panel who will be able to answer questions regarding GRG. One of the attorneys will be from Washington, D.C. who will discuss recent legislation signed into federal law that relates to assisting the GRG community.

All morning and afternoon presentations are open to all attendees. In addition, there will be dozens of vendor table booths available that provide detailed information regarding services that are important to this demographic.

Chair of the Coalition is Howard J. Grossman, fund raising director for the Pittston Memorial Library. He will provide opening remarks and outline the sponsors of the conference as well as other items of importance to the audience.
