Who doesn’t love a good farmers’ market? With spring finally here, everyone must be itching to get out and taste local foods even if the weather hasn’t quite warmed up yet. Fortunately, on April 12, Philadelphia’s Convention Center is hosting the fourth annual Philly Farm and Food Fest.

Started in 2011 by Fair Food Philly and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA), this massive annual market allows farms and local food producers to sell their goods. This year, there are over 150 vendors selling products and offering samples. Some returning favorites are Little Baby’s Ice Cream and ReAnimator Coffee, but lots of others will be on hand.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For an extra $10, visitors can enjoy the Libations Lounge, a beer garden offering tastings of local drinks.

Community-supported agriculture (CSA) will be highlighted at the CSA Pop-Up Shop. Local farms will explain their programs. People who sign up for a CSA at the Convention Center will receive a complimentary ticket to next year’s fest. Additionally, throughout the day, there will be a CSA School to teach participants how to use every item they receive each week.

The day will also include demos from farm-to-table chefs and farmers on topics like composting, beekeeping and jam-making. There will also be classroom takeovers designed for children.

Children under 12 attend for free and can enjoy family-friendly activities throughout the day.
