The Hudsons will also teach masterclasses for brass players earlier that afternoon. The masterclasses are free for all brass players and teachers, but pre-registration is requested. Interested brass players can obtain more information on registration for and participation in the masterclasses by emailing music@scranton.edu or calling 570-941-7624.
Caleb Hudson, the newest member of Canadian Brass, is familiar to Scranton audiences from his many performances at the university as a member of The New York Trumpet Ensemble, as well as having served as a teaching artist in 2013 and 2014 for The Scranton Brass Seminar.
He holds his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Juilliard School. Acclaimed by The New York Times as “brilliantly stylish,” he made his solo debut with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center performing Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. He appears world-wide with the Canadian Brass, in addition to solo performances with artists such as Vladimir Feltsman and, recently, the Israel Philharmonic, and also continues to perform with The New York Trumpet Ensemble.
He is an alumnus of Ensemble ACJW, a fellowship program of Carnegie Hall that promotes arts advocacy, community outreach and music education. An avid baroque musician, he also performs with notable early music ensembles, including Philharmonia Baroque, American Bach Soloists and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra.
Amanda Hudson is also a graduate of The Juilliard School, having earned her graduate degree in trombone performance.
She was selected as a soloist in the Berlin Philharmonic Masterclass series offered through Carnegie Hall, and was the recipient of the highly selective performance fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival. She holds additional degrees from the Mannes College of Music and Interlochen Arts Academy.
Committed to music education, she was a Juilliard Morse Fellow, a Juilliard Pre-College mentor and an Instrumental Music Program Fellow, and also served as a teaching artist for the 2014 Scranton Brass Seminar. She is currently part of the Teaching Artist Apprentice Program with the New York Philharmonic, is a member of Symphony in C, and has appeared as a performer and teaching artist throughout the country.
Deeply committed to service, she serves as a volunteer with Musicians On Call, bringing intimate one-on-one performances to patients undergoing treatment for serious health challenges in NYC hospitals.
Their pianist for the evening will be Stephanie Wu, a doctoral fellow, teaching fellow and member of the adjunct faculty at The Juilliard School.
