As storms intensify and demand for power grows, the importance of a reliable electric grid has never been clearer. Across our region, utility customers are looking not only for consistent service, but for meaningful support in managing their electric use and understanding their bills.
One utility company, PPL Electric Utilities, is leaning into both sides of that equation. Through long-term grid investments and customer-focused resources and programs, they’re working to keep power reliable, bills predictable and support within reach.
Here’s how that commitment, what the company calls its Partners in Power approach, is showing up in the communities it serves.
Building a more reliable electric grid
Today, reliability means more than responding to outages. It’s about preventing them before they happen while addressing changing demands on the electric system.
Through investments in its industry-leading Smart Grid technology, storm hardening and year-round vegetation management, PPL Electric is improving outage performance even as extreme weather becomes more common. And the numbers show it:
- Similar infrastructure investments by PPL Electric — combined with vegetation management work and Smart Grid enhancements — helped drive a nearly 25% reduction in outages in 2025 compared to 2024.
- Over the past decade, the company’s Smart Grid technology has helped prevent more than 3 million outages across its service territory.
The company’s work is not finished though. Through 2028, they are investing nearly $7 billion into the system to further strengthen and improve the grid. And they remain ready to respond and keep customers comfortable as the colder winter months approach.
Supporting more informed energy use
Beyond infrastructure, the company is arming customers with resources to manage their energy use. PPL Electric has expanded its digital tools and support resources to help customers make informed energy decisions.
That includes:
- An Online Energy Analyzer tool that shows customers when, where, and how they use energy, recommends the biggest opportunities for savings, and offers personalized tips to reduce monthly energy use.
- Abnormal usage alerts that notify customers when their consumption spikes.
- Budget Billing to smooth out seasonal bill fluctuations over 12 months.
- Payment plans and due date flexibility to accommodate different financial needs.
- Energy-saving tools, tips and programs designed to help reduce energy use and lower costs—including information on rebate programs and practical low- or no-cost strategies.
Together, these tools give customers more visibility, predictability and flexibility, especially during seasons of high demand or unexpected energy costs.
Understanding the bill and what’s behind it
Energy bills can be confusing, and misconceptions are common. One frequent assumption is that utilities control every portion of the bill. But in reality, PPL Electric doesn’t have direct control over approximately 50% of a residential bill. This portion includes energy supply costs, regulated charges and taxes. For customers who don’t shop for a third-party electricity supplier, PPL Electric purchases power on their behalf and passes on the cost of generation supply without markup. PPL Electric does not profit from power generation costs.
The other half of the bill is within the utility’s control, which includes the costs to maintain the poles, wires and equipment that deliver electricity to your home or business via the distribution and transmission grid. These charges are regulated and vary according to how much electricity a customer uses.
Thanks to a decade of operational efficiency, the company reports that its rates remain among the lowest in the state, even as costs rise across the industry. PPL Electric offers a library of online tools and resources to help customers understand each line item and make informed decisions.
A partnership that goes beyond the meter
Ultimately, keeping the lights on and bills manageable requires more than a one-sided approach. PPL Electric stands side by side with the communities it serves—investing in infrastructure, innovating through technology, and supporting customers with the tools and resources they need to make informed energy decisions.
Through its Partners in Power approach, the company is delivering real, measurable value: a stronger, smarter grid that’s reducing outages, programs that bring predictability and flexibility to monthly bills, and education that helps customers understand and manage their energy use.
Because at PPL Electric Utilities, reliability isn’t just about keeping the power on—it’s about empowering every customer and community to thrive, today and for the future.
