HUNTINGTON TWP. — A GoFundMe account has been set up and a vigil planned for a 7-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a pickup truck last Friday night.

According to state police, Gabriel Bierly was riding his bike when a dark-colored truck struck him near the boy’s Bonneville Road home on Friday evening.

The driver fled east on Bonneville Road away from the scene, according to state police. No arrests have been made as of yet.

On Wednesday, a GoFundMe was set up in memory of Gabriel to help cover funeral costs and expenses incurred by his family, including the cost of Gabriel’s tombstone. The fundraiser can be found at www.gofundme.com/f/gabriel-bierly.

The fundraiser was organized by Summer Aleah-Joy Bierly, Gabriel’s aunt, and in seven hours raised almost $1,600.

Bierly shared some fond memories of her nephew with a Times Leader reporter on Wednesday.

“Gabriel was very smart, ambitious, and always went out of his way to help others,” Bierly said. “His favorite things to do were to draw and ride his bike, and you had to pull him out of the pool when it was time to leave.”

A vigil in Gabriel’s honor is tenatively scheduled for Sunday evening at 5 p.m. in Kirby Park. According to his mother, a round of balloons will be released during the ceremony in memory of her son.
