The Dietrich’s After School Players will present a Scene Showcase at 11 a.m. Saturday, on March 7. Rehearsing are, from left, Cheyenne Talbert, Nehemiah Wear and Larissa Romanuski.

TUNKHANNOCK — Since early January, the Dietrich Theater After School Players have been learning about the theatre arts under the guidance of director Brenda Fager.

Through the use of Scene Study, 24 middle and high school students experienced all aspects of producing a play: breaking down a script, creating a character, learning the actor’s responsibilities, choosing costumes and designing a set. Through the use of acting games, focus has been given to the actors’ physical and vocal preparation.

The After School Players Showcase will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the theater and feature a performance of nine scenes from a few published plays. Families and friends are invited to see what the students have accomplished.

Fager comes from Houston, TX with experience in all aspects of theatre arts. She worked with children and adults, as an actor, stage manager, volunteer coordinator and a teacher.

In After School Players, she is assisted by Mary Troy, Dietrich Theater Supervisor/Projectionist and former After School Players actor. Judy Wiest, of Stage Door Dance Studio, is also key to the performance by preparing the students for a surprise number for the showcase.

After School Players is a free program for middle and high school students, funded by grants from the Wells Fargo Foundation, Walmart and the Overlook Estate Foundation. For 13 years, this program has been offered by the Dietrich Theater, serving over 325 middle and high school students.
