Groups registered with the Pick Up Pennsylvania program this month can dispose of the spring cleanup trash for free at the Waste Management Alliance Landfill in Taylor.

Michelle Dunn, coordinator of the Pick Up Pennsylvania program, said the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Pennsylvania Waste Industries Association have arranged for free disposal at participating landfills for registered cleanups. Groups can register at gacofpa.org and receive free event materials while supplies last. For additional information contact Dunn at at 877-772-3673 ext. 113 or [email protected].

Free disposal is available at Alliance through the end of April.

Registered groups also can earn cash prizes for their nonprofit or charity of choice by entering the Pick Up Pennsylvania Video Contest. Groups can send 60-second videos about their projects to Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful to be eligible for the prizes, Dunn said in a press release Wednesday. More information about the video contest is available at gacofpa.org website.

Each spring, volunteers participating in KPB’s statewide cleanup effort remove an average of 3,500 tons of trash and tires from the state’s roads, waterways, parks, trails and other shared public spaces.

Dunn encouraged participants in this year’s cleanups to observe COVID safety precautions that include maintaining social distancing and working in small groups or in family and household groups.

“You can make a difference in your community by working together,” Dunn said.
