PHILADELPHIA — For Lindsay Fiegleman, Abington Heights High School graduate, class of 2005, launching her own fashion line was only a matter of time.
The dream started at age 5.
From childhood on, the designer didn’t shrink from being “weird” or “crazy.” She persisted on that path in college, adding a heavy emphasis on business along the way, and now holds undergraduate degrees from The Fashion Institute of Technology (Design and Merchandising) and Drexel University (Entrepreneurship). She then continued her graduate education at Philadelphia University in Fashion Apparel and Textiles.
Fiegleman credits Cathy Corkill, her high school art teacher, as her inspiration to think outside of the box and to pursue an education and career in fashion.
The Clarks Summit native launched her line of accessories, Sticks + Stones, in December 2014.
Harnessing her fervent interest for travel and for India specifically, she designed a culturally rich line featuring genuine leather handbags and sterling silver jewelry with hints of pavé diamonds and precious stones. Taking cues from nature, indigenous tribes, street fashion and ancient philosophies, Sticks + Stones aims to create a feeling of free spirit and cultural sensation, appealing to those young and old.
The products allow wearers to express themselves through accessories and serves a clientele from the United States, Europe, Canada and Asia.
Aiming to reach like-minded, creative individuals who enjoy exploring how and where their products are made, all Sticks + Stones pieces are handmade in Northern regions of India, with manufacturing facilities that are clean, safe, and up to code.
Fiegleman’s interest in India expands beyond the beautiful design influences found there. After spending time working in the country and with its people, she wanted to use her own business to shed light on the frequent misconceptions of the workplace there and to directly support the talent of local artisans. The brand features a “Treasures of the Journey” collection, which showcases handpicked Indian items of local artists.
Learning at a young age to never take “no” for an answer, Fiegleman built Sticks + Stones as a labor of love, using industry experience – most recently at Urban Outfitters and Free People corporate locations. Through hard work and tenacity, she found success in shaping the Philly fashion scene, while also managing to reach a wide global audience with her line of ethnically conscious accessories.
