Gregory S. Wolovich Jr., 28, announced his run for Luzerne County Council.

A Hanover Township Republican, Wolovich works as an assistant manager at Wegmans Food Markets Inc, where he manages a team and handles both day-to-day operations and daily, monthly and yearly financials.

Public interaction is a large part of his position, he said.

”Being able to communicate effectively, solving problems and meeting expectations consistently is a crucial part of what I do,” he said. “I am also responsible for making financial decisions which will directly impact my area of work.”

A 2014 King’s College graduate with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Wolovich said his educational background directly correlates with council responsibilities of managing the county budget.

”Understanding the importance of a balanced, effective budget and fiscally conservative values with the money of others was at the core of my education,” Wolovich said. “Being able to financially prepare for years to come, and not just focusing on the present, will be a priority of mine.”

The county “deserves conservative, stable, dedicated leadership to keep a watchful eye on our county finances,” he said.

As with households, council must find ways to efficiently manage the budget without accumulating additional, unnecessary debt, he said.

County funds come from taxpayers and should not be “treated as a blank check,” he said.

”I will always keep in mind the best interests of our residents in every decision I make. Transparency is crucial in a stable government, and I would always make clear my decision making process on the matters at hand,” Wolovich said, calling for more “questions, suggestions and detail-oriented answers” as decisions are made.

Wolovich pledged to work with local officials and help the county grow by supporting groups and community service organizations.

”My decisions will always be made by what I feel is in the best interests of the taxpayers and residents of Luzerne County based on extensive research and communication with the people they will directly affect, not simply partisan politics,” Wolovich said.
