Boscov’s open 49th store

With the opening of its 49th store in Ohio’s largest mall complex, Eastwood Mall in Niles, OH, Boscov’s achieved record-breaking sales during its three-day Grand Opening Celebration.

“We spent two years planning a three-day Grand Opening Celebration specifically for the Mahoning Valley community and we’re thrilled to say it was the best opening ever,” said Jim Boscov, Chairman and CEO of Boscov’s.

The celebration commenced on Thursday, Oct. 7, with Charity Day — Shop for a Cause, where customers donating $5 to a participating non-profit received exclusive advanced access to a store full of incredible Grand Opening specials. In doing so, Boscov’s raised over $100,000 for non-profit organizations most critical to Mahoning Valley.

On Friday, Oct. 8, Boscov’s hosted Family Day — Something for Everyone, where families were entertained by balloon and caricature artists, interactive EDUtainment activities by Mr. Ralf of the Youngstown based Oh Wow! Children’s Museum and a Free discount pass to support local eateries while enjoying the music of a pianist on a Steinway concert grand piano.

On Saturday, October 9, the 125-piece Niles Marching Band kicked off the ribbon-cutting ceremony where the President of Trumbull’s United Way and member agencies snipped a unique grand opening ribbon made of $100 bills for member organizations, plus a special $1,000 bill for the United Way, symbolizing Boscov’s commitment to local charities.

Customers enjoyed free live performances by Elvis Aaron Presley Jr and Jason Lindsey, aka “Mr. Science.” To cap off the celebration, Boscov’s put on a spectacular Grand Opening Fireworks display synchronized to music.

“It’s not just sales that define a successful opening,” Boscov said. “It’s our greatest opening ever because in addition to doing great business, we raised over $100,000 for local non-profits, expanded our family by hiring over 200 Mahoning Valley residents and further established Eastwood Mall as the region’s dominant shopping destination.”
