WILKES-BARRE — The United Way of Wyoming Valley Thursday issued a reminder that the deadline for nonprofit human service agencies to apply for American Rescue Plan funding from the City of Wilkes-Barre is next Friday, Dec. 10.

The city is making $1.1 million in grant money available to support and strengthen eligible human service organizations located in the city. The United Way of Wyoming Valley is administering the distribution of the funds on behalf of the city.

“The United Way applauds the city’s administration and council for recognizing the value of the nonprofit sector in helping individuals and families in need,” said Bill Jones, President and CEO of United Way of Wyoming Valley. “This funding will help the human service agencies in their efforts to support others.”

Jones said the application is not complicated and grants are expected to range from $10,000 to $75,000. To qualify, the organizations must have a 501(c)3 tax-exempt status, a physical location in Wilkes-Barre, and they must have started their operations before July 1, 2019.

In addition to a completed application, interested nonprofits must also submit a Form 990, financial information, a list of board members, a Certificate of Good Standing from the PA Department of State, and a Certificate of Registration under Solicitation Law from the PA Commission on Charitable Organization.
