WILKES-BARRE — Christmas is coming early at some parking meters in the city as Mayor George Brown announced he is suspending fees to encourage people to visit the shops and restaurants downtown.
Starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday and continuing through Jan. 2 of next year, motorists will not have to pay to park at meters in the area bordered by Union Street on the north, Franklin Street on the west, South Street on the south and Washington Street on the east.
Meter parking outside the designated area will be enforced.
Brown also welcomed people to attend the “Santa on the Square” event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on Public Square.
