WILKES-BARRE — City Council will hold a combined work session and public meeting Thursday night online as it has been doing this year because of a surge in COVID-19 cases locally.

The public is not allowed in Council chambers at City Hall for either the work session beginning at 5:30 p.m. or the meeting that follows at 6 p.m. The proceedings will be live streamed and the link will be posted on the main page of the city’s website, wilkes-barre.city.

Public comments are not allowed during the work session. However, during the meeting comments can be made on agenda items before they are voted on by Council and afterward on any Council-related matter.

The agenda, which can be found at wilkes-barre.city/citycouncil, contains four resolutions:

• The disposition of records from the Finance Office.

• The reappointment of Leon Schuster to the Zoning Hearing Board for a term expiring Jan. 24, 2027.

• The reappointments of Frank Majikes and Phil Latinski to the Police Civil Service Commission for terms expiring Dec. 31, 2023.

• The appointment of Bill Barrett, who also is a member of Council, to the Police Civil Service Commission for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2023.

Council set up a designated call-in line for comments at 570-580-1176. Comments also can be sent by email to City Clerk Cathy Payne at cpayne@wilkes-barre.pa.us by 2:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
