WILKES-BARRE — City police arrested Sheldon Baboolal on allegations he stabbed another man five times inside a home on Brown Street early Friday morning.

Baboolal, 50, was captured when officers found him near his residence on Jones Street, according to court records.

Police in court records say a witness saw Baboolal stab the victim once in the abdomen, twice in the chest and twice in the back before fleeing the Brown Street house just after 1 a.m..

Baboolal was arraigned by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre on five counts of aggravated assault. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $150,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police responded to 75 Brown St. when city firefighters initially went to the house for a man suffering shortness of breath but learned the man, identified as Malcom Perry, had sustained stab wounds.

Police said Perry had exposed organs and was bleeding profusely. Perry was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Officers were at the house earlier for an unrelated incident and came in contact with Baboolal who was heavily intoxicated.

After officers left, Baboolal continued to be agitated for an unknown reason and got into an argument with Perry before brandishing a knife and stabbing Perry five times, the complaint says.

Officers were aware Baboolal resided on Jones Street where he was arrested when found in front of his house.
