PLAINS TWP. — Sheetz will host a “hiring day” event on Wednesday, looking to hire nearly 50 new employees at Sheetz stores in the greater Plains Township area.

A spokesperson for Sheetz said prospective employees can visit whichever store they’d like to work at.

The day-long hiring event will run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sheetz is also hosting additional hiring events across its six-state footprint this spring as the company aims to hire 2,000 employees company-wide.

Prospective employees must apply online at — jobs.sheetz.com — prior to attending Wednesday’s hiring event.

During the hiring event, individuals who applied online will participate in on-the-spot interviews and can learn about Sheetz’s commitment to offering employees sustainable careers and growth within the company built on an inspiring culture and community engagement.

Named a 100 Best Company to Work For by Fortune and Great Places to Work in eight of the last nine years, Sheetz offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, including medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, 12 weeks of fully paid maternity leave, an employee stock ownership plan, quarterly bonuses and more.

In December 2022, Sheetz announced it had purchased the building on the site at 815 Kidder St. — Valley Mart Citgo — and would demolish the structure to build a new Sheetz convenience store with gas pump stations.

In September 2021, Wilkes-Barre City Council approved the transfer of a liquor license for a Sheetz store proposed for the Kidder Street location.

At the time, Attorney Ellen Freeman of the Flaherty & O’Hara law firm in Pittsburgh representing Sheetz, said plans were to have the store built by the end of 2022. The new store at 815 Kidder St. would sell beer and wine.

“Sheetz will build its building from the ground up,” Freeman told council during a public hearing prior to the vote in September 2021.

The state Liquor Code required Council approval, in the form of a resolution, for the transfer of a licenses between municipalities.

Sheetz has other locations on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard, Route 11 in Larksville, Memorial Highway in Shavertown, and Route 315 in Plains Township.
