CONYNGHAM — A Conyngham Borough man was arraigned Wednesday on allegations he sexually assaulted a girl from September through February.

State police at Hazleton initiated an investigation after the 5-year-old girl was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton following a vehicle crash in February, where it was discovered she had contracted a sexually transmitted disease, according to court records.

Investigators learned the girl was in the company of Brian Thaddeus Mrozik, 47, who was suffering from an STD, court records say.

Court records say the girl was questioned by a forensic interviewer at the Luzerne County Children’s Advocacy Center on Feb. 14. Details of the interview are listed in the criminal complaint.

The girl also was questioned by a state trooper in early March, at which time she described the alleged assaults.

Mrozik was arraigned by District Judge Joseph Spagnuolo in Plains Township on 10 counts of indecent assault, five counts of corruption of minors and a single count of aggravated indecent assault. Mrozik was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail.

In a related case, Cherish L. Fedder, 49, of Conyngham, was charged April 4 with a single count of endangering the welfare of children.

State police allege Fedder was aware the girl was being sexually assaulted by Mrozik and failed to protect the child. Fedder remains jailed for lack of $15,000 bail.
