NANTICOKE — The Salt & Pepper Pub on North Market Street in Nanticoke has temporarily closed.
The announcement was made on the restaurant’s Facebook page:
“We regret to announce that Salt & Pepper Pub will be temporarily closed, we are unsure of what the future will hold for our location sadly due to a lack of business.
“With that being said, for those amazing guests that did come and support us, we want to truly thank you for your business!”
The posting lists a phone number — 570-822-2992 — for people to call with questions or concerns.
The Friedman Hospitality Group purchased the former Giuseppe’s in late 2021, then re-branded and re-opened it as a fine dining venue called Grico’s South, echoing the name of another Friedman property in Exeter.
When that failed, the property was rebranded again, re-opening in the spring of this year as the Salt & Pepper Pub.
“We found that fine dining was not getting the support we expected at that location,” owner Rob Friedman said in February of this year. “So we decided to go in a completely different direction and open a pub with a new menu.”
Friedman said all key employees will be placed at other Friedman Hospitality group restaurants: The Beaumont Inn, Dallas; Fire & Ice, Shavertown; Kevin’s, Kingston; Grico’s, Exeter; Cork, Wilkes-Barre; The Greens at Irem Clubhouse, Dallas; Bank+Vine, Wilkes-Barre; Rikasa, Pittston.
“We’re considering all options,” Friedman said. “But I’m not sure yet what the plan will be for Salt & Pepper. You don’t hit home runs all the time. This one just never got off the ground.”
