WILKES-BARRE — Visitors and guests at the Days Inn on Kidder Street were evacuated when a fire was discovered inside a first floor room Tuesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported.

Wilkes-Barre City Fire Chief Jay Delaney said firefighters responded to the hotel due to an activated fire alarm at 12:59 p.m.

As firefighters responded, Delaney said the proprietors of the hotel checked each floor and discovered a fire inside a first floor room.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused smoke to fill the hotel, Delaney said. Exhaust fans were used to ventilate the building.

Nineteen rooms at the hotel were booked at the time, but most guests were not present, the chief added. There were several guests standing outside who had evacuated the building.

Delaney said the city’s code enforcement office will inspect the hotel before guests are permitted to return.

Firefighters from the Kingston/Forty Fort Fire Department responded as the Rapid Intervention Team.
