WILKES-BARRE — The Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club will be distributing bicycles at a party being held for the children served by the Salvation Army at the Salvation Army Citadel, 34 South Pennsylvania Ave., Wilkes-Barre, on Saturday, Dec. 16, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Santa will arrive at 12 p.m. to distribute the bicycles.
For the 11th year, Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club is partnering with the Salvation Army of Wilkes-Barre who have identified the children scheduled to receive the bikes.
“The Salvation Army of Wilkes-Barre and I, personally, thank the Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club for their generous and faithful support,” said Denise Acosta, Director of Social Services of The Salvation Army. “Their efforts to provide ‘Bikes for Tykes’ at Christmas are tremendous. The WVMC’s support of The Salvation Army in this way makes it possible for us to give these special gifts that we could not otherwise afford to provide.”
The funds to purchase the bicycles were raised at the annual “Bikes 4 Tykes” Motorcycle Ride, held on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023. The ride attracted 115 participants. The proceeds raised enabled the club to purchase 31 bicycles and host a party for the children receiving the bicycles.
“This is a day our club members look forward to,” said Jim Biscotto, President of Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club. “It’s great to see the joy on the faces of the children that come to the party and receive their bike from Santa. It brings the holidays to life for us.”
The Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club thanked Denise Acosta for her work and dedication in making this event possible.
“At this time of year, people want to do something nice for kids” said Linda Loop, Public Relations Office for Wyoming Valley Motorcycle Club. “With Denise’s help, we get to combine our love of riding with philanthropic efforts. The club does some nice work, and this shows the community that bikers are good and caring people.”
