WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A woman was arraigned over the weekend on allegations she assaulted a Wilkes-Barre Township police officer.
Zireyah Zavia Silver, 26, address listed as homeless, spat and kicked an officer while causing a disturbance inside and outside the Walmart Supercenter Center on Saturday, according to court records.
The officer was assisting Silver by attempting to find housing at a shelter when she became disruptive, court records say.
Police responded to the department store for a report of an unresponsive female inside the business at about 3:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, Silver was awake but appeared to have an altered mental status, court records say.
Silver claimed she was homeless and was shopping but police in court records say she was consuming unpaid food and beverages inside the store.
After Silver was escorted to a security officer, police learned of her status and attempted to find housing in a shelter.
Silver became combative, spat and kicked an officer inside the security office and while being placed inside a cruiser, court records say.
Silver allegedly continued to spit despite a spit hood being placed on her head.
Silver was arraigned by District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz of Pittston on charges of assault upon a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and harassment. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
