WILKES-BARRE — The Downtown Art and Event Space celebrated its grand opening Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new space on South Washington Street.

As previously reported by the Times leader, the 1,800-square-foot event space seats up to 75 people and can be adapted to fit a variety of functions such as birthday parties, bridal showers and banquets.

Parking for the venue will be at St. Nicolas Church, located at 226 S. Washington St.

Owner Ashley Rushing said in a press release that after a decade working as a nurse, she wanted to explore another, more creative career path as well as provide an affordable, yet upscale venue for the community.

“I began this business with only $10 and an idea. The Spark Program, combined with good old-fashioned sweat equity, allowed my idea to become a reality,” Rushing said in the press release.

For the grand opening, The Downtown Art And Event Space is offering a deal of 20% off all bookings at 8 hours through the Peerspace website and any bookings at 8 hours will also get the full day to allow for set up and decorations.

The deal runs through April and May and includes parking across the street for up to 9 spaces free.
