WILKES-BARRE — A Butler Township man who admitted to sexually assaulting a girl for years was sentenced to up to six years in state prison.

Luzerne County President Judge Michael T. Vough sentenced Stewart William Marchetti, 71, of Drums, to three to six years in state prison on a charge of aggravated indecent assault. Marchetti pled guilty to the charge Oct. 23.

Luzerne County detectives charged Marchetti in 2021, when a girl reported he began sexually assaulting her in January 1999 and continued until she turned 12-years-old, according to court records.

Vough ruled Marchetti met the criteria as a sexually violent predator, subject to lifetime registration under the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Marchetti was also sentenced to a consecutive term of probation for three years.
