WILKES-BARRE — The Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA announced the appointment of Jason Minnick as its new Marketing Director at the association’s headquarters, 40 W. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre.
The site has been home to the YMCA since 1936.
After graduating from Southern Columbia Area in 2000, Minnick obtained his associate degree in journalism from Luzerne County Community College (2002) and his bachelor’s degree in public relations in 2005. During college, he spent five years as a camp counselor at the Bloomsburg YMCA and coached Southern Columbia’s boys’ soccer team to two appearances in the state tournament.
Following college, Minnick was a feature writer with D.C. United (2005) then wrote and managed the website for United Soccer Leagues (2006-2010) before serving as press officer for Major League Soccer club FC Dallas (2010-18). He worked at a marketing firm, Penna Powers in Salt Lake City (2019-20), and spent the last four years as the Director of Communications and Community Relations for Phoenix Rising FC in Arizona. Minnick and his wife Erin Nicholson welcomed their first child, Crosby, in January 2023 and are excited to introduce him to the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA family.
“I’m thrilled to join the team at the YMCA,” said Minnick, “I am looking forward to sharing the story of the Y and critical programs like childcare, water safety and chronic disease prevention in the Greater Wyoming Valley Area.”

The Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA association continues to expand services, looking to open its seventh branch in Luzerne County in the near future.
