WILKES-BARRE — City police easily identified the woman who failed to return a Toyota SUV to Motorworld on a test drive run on Wednesday.
Brandy Marie Peters, 42, of Laurel Run Estates, Laurel Run, left her driver’s license with a salesman when she sped away in a 2024 Toyota Rav4 and did not return to the dealership, according to court records.
Police found Peters at her residence inflating a bicycle tire with the reported stolen Toyota parked in a driveway, court records say.
Peters was arraigned by District Judge Ferris Webby of Wright Township on charges of theft, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
According to the criminal complaint:
Peters arrived at Motorworld and test drove a Kia with a salesperson in the passenger seat. After a short drive, Peters told the salesperson she did not like the Kia and walked to the Toyota sales building on the property.
Peters inquired about a 2024 Toyota Rav4 and provided her driver’s license prior to taking the SUV on a test drive, the complaint says.
When the salesman was about to enter the passenger seat, the complaint says, Peters asked him why he needed to accompany her on the test drive.
The salesman offered to sit in the rear seat but Peters sped away and failed to return within one hour when the vehicle was reported stolen.
