PRINGLE — Police in Kingston arrested Simon Roy Allaria of Plymouth on charges that he stole items from Gerrity’s the Fresh Grocer, which evolved into a robbery when confronted by store employees on Monday.
According to the criminal complaint:
Allaria was inside the food market and was observed concealing nail polish remover, a nail file and black hair ties in a bag. When confronted by store staff, Allaria attempted to run out of the store and became physically combative with employees.
A female employee suffered an injury to her right hand during the struggle, the complaint says.
Allaria was detained inside a store office as police arrived at the scene.
Police in the complaint say Allaria was in possession of a plastic bag and a rolled up $1 bill containing suspected methamphetamine.
Allaria, 43, of East Main Street, was arraigned by District Judge Ferris Webby of Wright Township on charges of robbery, simple assault, defiant trespass and retail theft. No drug charges were filed against Allaria.
Allaria remained jailed on Wednesday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $40,000 bail.
