BUTLER TWP. — A Butler Township man, while employed as an emergency medical technician with the Valley Regional Fire & Rescue, was arraigned on allegations he submitted fraudulent time cards for payment.
James X. Sharp Jr., 59, of West Butler Drive, was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Daniel O’Donnell in Butler Township on two felony counts of theft and a felony count of tampering with public records. He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Special Investigations Division:
A member of the board of directors at Valley Regional Fire & Rescue filed a complaint with Butler Township police in March 2023, alleging Sharp falsified time cards he submitted for payment for hours he did not work.
Sharp was employed as an advanced life support coordinator and an emergency medical technician at Valley Regional. He was terminated on March 8, 2023.
State police were contacted in August 2025 to conduct an investigation.
The complaint alleges Sharp submitted fraudulent time cards totaling $16,192 from November 2022 to March 2023, including fraudulent time cards between Jan. 30, 2023, and Feb. 1, 2023, while he was on vacation in Key West, Fla.
When interviewed by Butler Township police in May 2023, Sharp provided a statement that read, “Hours submitted Nov. 14, 2022, to March 4, 2023, VFRR stated where not worked. Since I cannot effectively prove, I agree” with the accusation, the complaint says.
