WILKES-BARRE — Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice P. Kevin Brobson was given a close parking spot behind the Luzerne County Courthouse on Friday for a special event.
Brobson presented a plaque to Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr., Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas judge, and Danielle Goldowski, adult treatment court coordinator, officially certifying Luzerne County Drug Treatment Court.
Brobson called Luzerne County Drug Treatment Court programs “one of the finest” and Goldowski as “one of the best treatment court administrators” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which has approximately 130 treatment courts across the state.
Luzerne County Drug Treatment Court has its roots in the mid-2000s, with the first graduation class held in 2007. The goal is to help, assist, and guide defendants who are arrested for non-violent drug or alcohol offenses, and to help those addicted to drugs or alcohol become sober. Participants plead guilty, but the charges are dismissed if they successfully graduate from the program by following strict guidelines and treatment plans coordinated by a team of professionals.
Sklarosky thanked those professionals and outside providers for their professionalism, dedication, and hard work in helping those who need support lead productive lives.
Refreshments and food were offered following Brobson’s brief presentation.
