WILKES-BARRE — Felony aggravated assault charges were withdrawn against two men who engaged in a physical altercation that involved both men suffering stab wounds in April.
Hanover Township police charged Kennie Acosta, 25, of Wilkes-Barre, and Dominick L. Irwin, 26, after the two men fought in the area of 43 Lee Park Ave. on April 12, according to court records.
Irwin told police he stood outside his ex-girlfriend’s house to access her WiFi when Acosta rushed outside and attacked him, court records say.
Irwin told police, court records alleged, two knives fell from his pocket during the fight, and Acosta picked up a knife and stabbed him in the chest.
Acosta claimed he picked up a knife from the ground and Irwin “leaned” into the blade, stabbing himself, court records say.
Acosta suffered a stab wound to his lower back.
During a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court on Wednesday, Irwin pled guilty to a misdemeanor offense of disorderly conduct. Charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment were withdrawn against Irwin.
Acosta pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple assault, while charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, possessing instruments of crime, and disorderly conduct were withdrawn.
Irwin was fined $300, and Acosta was fined $640.
