ASHLEY — Police in Ashley Borough charged Zachary Thomas Dorsey with possessing a firearm without a license while investigating a report that two pedestrians were struck on Carey Street on July 5, according to court records.
Police responded to Carey Street after a vehicle struck two people and fled the scene at about 12:12 a.m., court records say.
Court records say the two people, who are not named, reached into the vehicle in an attempt to confiscate a firearm when the driver, identified as Dorsey, sped away, dragging the pair.
Hanover Township police encountered Dorsey parked in a Plymouth Laser in the area of West Ashley and Carey streets, where he was detained.
Dorsey told police, according to court records, that he defended himself when he was attacked by the two people.
A 9mm firearm with a loaded magazine and a round in its chamber was found inside the vehicle Dorsey was operating, court records allege.
Police say Dorsey does not have a license to carry a firearm.
Dorsey was arraigned by District Judge Matthew J. Carmody of West Pittston on a single count of firearms not to be carried without a license. He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
