Susquehanna Brewing Company raises money for SPCA

JENKINS TOWNSHIP — Animal lovers and tattoo enthusiasts braved the heat Sunday for a fundraiser at the Susquehanna Brewing Company benefiting the SPCA of Luzerne County.
“Tattoos, Tails and Ales” was held outside under the tent and featured food trucks, drinks, baked goods, and raffle baskets.
Attendees also enjoyed live music from local bands Almost Imfamous, Bromance 3D, and Facing the Giants. Flash tattoos and tarot card readings were available inside.
“People were very generous,” said Ginger Fath, a volunteer with the SPCA. “We had people donating raffle baskets and gift cards and everything.”
Funds raised will help the SPCA purchase everything from enrichment toys to food for the animals it cares for.
“It’s nice to see everyone come together for such a good cause, and it’s such a nice day out,” Fath said.
Fath, who has donated her time to the organization for about five years, was eager on Sunday to show off Bugsy, a friendly terrier/pit bull mix who came to the organization as a stray and is searching for his forever home.
“He’s so sweet. He’s very laid back,” she said.
Attendees also brought their own dogs out for the event. Melissa Basarab, of Swoyersville, brought her five-year-old golden retriever, Molly.
“We wanted to come out and raise money for the SPCA and hopefully get some of these dogs adopted,” Basarab said.
Basarab is in a golden retriever group with a few others and loves to see Molly having a good time outdoors.
“Anytime she gets to spend time with her friends, she’s happy,” Basarab said.
Basarab knows how important animal shelters are. She adopted her cat from Blue Chip and can’t imagine life without him.
“He is so sweet. Adding him to our family was the best thing we’ve ever done,” she said.
