SLOCUM TWP. — A couple from Slocum Township was victimized by a sweepstakes scam, the Pennsylvania State Police at Shickshinny said.
The couple, ages 93 and 85, received a phone call on July 18 notifying them that they had won a large sum of money from Publishers Clearing House.
To accept the money, state police said, they were instructed to purchase two Amazon gift cards and to send pictures of the gift cards. The victims lost $1,000 after purchasing two $500 gift cards, state police say.
