Officials with the Wyoming Area Regional Police reminded residents to keep their doors and windows locked and to remain vigilant following an incident that occurred Sunday morning, when they said a man trespassed into a backyard and made threats to the homeowner.
According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, police are advising residents “to lock all doors and windows, secure vehicles and outbuildings, and remain vigilant, particularly if encountering an unfamiliar person or vehicle on or near their property.”
This warning follows an incident that police responded to at approximately 4:59 a.m. on Sunday in Exeter Township, along Route 92, involving an unknown male operating a stolen vehicle.
Police said the male entered a residential property and initially knocked on the front door.
He then drove the vehicle into the backyard, where he was confronted by the homeowner, police said.
During the confrontation, police said the man allegedly made statements threatening to kill the homeowner.
The male then attempted to flee in the vehicle but crashed into trees on the property. He then exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot, according to the post.
“Do not approach or confront suspicious individuals. If you observe a suspicious person, vehicle, or activity in the area, move to a safe location and call 911 immediately,” officials said in the post.
Police also encouraged residents to review any exterior security or doorbell camera footage that may have captured suspicious activity during the early morning hours on Sunday.
