WILKES-BARRE — The Luzerne County Coroner said that a person died in a house fire at 77 S. Grant St. on Monday evening.
After firefighters from the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department dealt with the fire, the area was blocked off as a crime scene, and the coroner was called, an official on scene said.
“The firefighters did an absolutely amazing job knocking the fire down,” Jay Delaney, Wilkes-Barre City fire chief, said on Monday.
Delaney said that nine people lived at the residence on Grant Street.
A fire marshal with the Pennsylvania State Police was on scene on Monday.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning, the coroner said.
Delaney said the fire was under investigation and no further details would be released until more authorities arrived.
