Police arrested one man and seized heroin, cash, two cellphones and two scales during a raid Friday in Freeland.

FREELAND — A two-month undercover drug investigation ended Friday with the arrest of Robert Demelfi and the seizure of 350 packets of heroin and $1.600 in cash, police said.

Demelfi, 46, was taken into custody and transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of a medical condition and upon his release will be charged with delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, police said.

Butlert Township and Freeland police departments and the Hazleton City Police Narcotics Unit investigated the case. A confidential informant working with Butler Township police began purchasing heroin from Demelfi in April and Freeland later joined in the investigation, police said. The informant made a purchase within the past week and police obtained a search warrant for a residence at 238 Maple Street, Freeland, police said.

During a raid Friday afternoon, Demelfi was arrested and a second person at the residence was detained and later released, police said. In addition to the heroin and cash, two cellphones and two scales were seized, police said.

Agents from the state Attorney General’s Office and the Sugarloaf Police department assisted in the raid, police said.
