DORRANCE TWP.— The theft of road signs continues to be a problem in the township, it was stated at Monday’s supervisors meeting — only the latest incident was on a Luzerne County-owned road and bridge not on township streets.
Whereas in February, Todd Badman, roadmaster reported that stop signs were being stolen in the township, this time thieves recently removed directional and warning signs at a recently reconstructed bridge on St. Mary’s Road. It was stated the matter will be referred to county officials. St. Mary’s Road is maintained by the county road and bridge department and the bridge, after several months of renovation, was only reopened to traffic in the fall of 2014.
On the matter of finances, the supervisors, in the payment of bills for March, approved a $30,000 remittance to Bradco Supply to finalize the purchase of a 2003 dump truck. They also accepted the bid of Steve’s Lawn Care, $16,595, for mowing and triming services at the municipal grounds and sports fields commencing on April 15.
Keeping with tradition the supervisors approved an Easter egg hunt for young people ages 1-to-10 at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 29. Sign up is at Andy’s Market and at JL Market. The deadline for registration is March 24.
After the meeting, supervisor Royce Engler affirmed that he will not be a candidate for nomination on the May primary ballot. Engler is completing the second year of a two-year term. Conversation by township officials, indicated that Kevin Gallagher, a Republican who resides on Alberdeen Road, has nominating petitions to succeed Engler.
