SHICKSHINNY— Borough council at a special meeting on Monday made quick work of three zoning panel appointments and at the same time re-hired Rick Harman to serve as codes officer.
Harman, who was ousted on a 2-1 vote at the February council meeting, subsequently sought reinstatement and on a 3-2 vote led by councilman Jim Wido was reinstated at pay rate of $25 per hour. Besides Wido, Harman had the support of councilman Michael Steeber as well as council president Rosalie Whitebread.
When the matter of a codes officer came up for discussion, councilman Kathleen Llewellyn nominated Larry Frace of Bloomsburg to serve in the post. Llewellyn was backed by councilman Kevin Morris. On a roll vote, however, Frace’s nomination failed to gain majority support. Harmon was reappointed.
The same voting process evolved as Barry Belles was chosen to serve on the zoning hearing board; former councilman Barry Noss was selected to the planning and mitigation commission and Clarence Lewis, a member of the Northwest Area School Board, was elected to the uniformed construction code board.
They will serve three-year terms.
Council, on similar 3-2 vote, approved the scheduling of a special meeting on March 26 to consider an ordinance on borrowing to finance a proposed Shickshinny Sewer Authority project.
Steeber who is currently serving the final year of a four-year term council and who is a member of the sewer authority, said after the meeting that he has not filed a petition for re-election. Steeber said, “I’m not running.”
