The Chinchilla Hose Company’s annual pizza sale fundraising event, from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. every Friday during lent. The University of Scranton’s Weinberg Memorial Library seeks book donations and volunteers. The library is requesting book and tag sale donations for its annual spring sale, as well as volunteers to help with preparation and staffing for the event. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library Endowment. Accepted are: any hardcover or paperback books in good condition, including children’s books, cookbooks, fiction and non-fiction, as well as media and tag sale items. Donations may be placed in the boxes on the Monroe Ave. side of the library until Wednesday, April 22. Olaf raffle: Enter a chance raffle at Abington Community Library to receive a personalized, pre-recorded message from Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf from the movie “Frozen.” Tickets are $1 each and proceeds will be used to purchase children’s books for the library. Anyone may enter, but it must be on behalf of a child under 12 years of age. A winner will be drawn and notified during National Library Week, April 12-18.

Used eyeglasses collection: Abington Heights High School Students Against Destructive Decisions are collecting used eyeglasses which will be donated to the Lackawanna Blind Association. Collection will take place until Friday, March 27.

This early spring ritual is a sure sign that “spring is in the air,” so dress for the weather and meet at the Environmental Learning Center on Rt. 407. Sharp Kids knife safety workshop, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 21 at Lackawanna State Park. This course will guide students ages 8-16 through several kid-friendly carving projects. Instruction will include knife safety, first aid for cuts, and basic outdoor knife skills. Following instruction and completion of a written test on knife safety, each child will be given their own small, fixed-blade knife to use during class and to keep.
