WEST WYOMING — During the Monday, March 9 meeting, council unanimously passed a resolution formally opposing the Penn-Eastern Pipeline.
A letter of opposition was sent to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission asking for a “thorough review of Penn Eastern’s application for the pipeline construction” and to take all of the facts into consideration before “making a decision on the project so the health and safety of West Wyoming’s residents is safe-guarded.”
Councilwoman Eileen Cipriani also said that the borough has received letters of support from state Sen. John Yudichak, D-Plymouth Township, and state Rep. Aaron Kaufer, R-Kingtson.
Councilman Mike Dolan announced that Hose Company No. 1, located on Shoemaker Avenue, is hosting its annual spring craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Dolan also announced that the company is sponsoring a Lenten pizza sale form 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the firehouse every Friday throughout the season of Lent. Pizzas are $10 unbaked and $12 baked. Mayor Joseph Herbert spoke about Rear Admiral Scott Giberson, son of Carmella Giberson Nardone and the late Delmar Giberson. The rear admiral is a former Wyoming Area graduate from West Wyoming. He is an acting deputy surgeon general of the United States and commander of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corp’s Ebola Response in West Africa.
He spent six weeks in Liberia, where he cared for Ebola patients while training and helping to set up the only U.S. government hospital in Liberia. He is also the director of 6,700-plus members of the Commissioned Corps Headquarters in Maryland.
Giberson and his wife, Lynette, have a 13-year-old son, Payton, and reside in Maryland.
The next meeting of the West Wyoming Borough Council will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 13.
