HAZLETON — Police said two men face firearms violations after shots were reportedly fired early Saturday morning in the area of Diamond Avenue and Carson Street.

Raymond Marquis Williams, 30, and Herman Ayala Jr., 33, were arrested after police stopped a vehicle matching the description of the one that fled the scene after the gunfire.

Police Sunday said that the two men were charged and arraigned by District Judge Rick Cronauer in Wilkes-Barre. They were unable to post bail and were committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

Police responded to a report of shots fired outside the Xtacy Hookah Lounge around 4:05 a.m. Saturday. Witnesses told police security staff broke up a fight inside and removed the people from the lounge. The witnesses said while outside, another fight began.

According to witnesses: Two of the participants in the fight went to a vehicle and retrieved weapons. One of the man was armed with an AK 47 rifle and the other man had a handgun, possibly a Glock with an extended high capacity magazine. The man with the handgun fired what was described as a burst of rounds, as if the firearm was modified to fire as an automatic weapon. The men fled in a green mini-van that was later stopped.

There were no reported injuries.

Anyone with information about the gunfire is urged to call Hazleton Police at 570 459-4950 or through Luzerne County 911. The investigating officer is Detective David Rodick.

West Hazleton police, Butler Township police and the Pennsylvania State Police assisted.

Police responded to a shooting earlier in February outside the lounge. A 27-year-old Hazleton man was shot several times, police said.
