The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. That Bounce Place, 925 Wilkes-Barre Twp. Blvd. Wilkes-Barre, June 1. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed cases of juice stored directly on the floor in storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Ware-washing sink does not have basins large enough to accommodate the largest piece of equipment needing manual ware washing. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Interior of microwave, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Microwave cleaned. Observed a buildup of syrup on surface above dispenser on the Slush Puppy machine. Surface cleaned. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in storage area directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. Receiving door located in the storage area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the ladies restroom to remind food employees to wash their hands. Sign was provided. Back storage area of the food facility is extremely dirty and in need of cleaning. Observed 100 plus rodent-like droppings along wall and on shelf in the back storage area. Food facility has lost its certified food employee over 3 months ago and has not replaced the certified food employee as required.

Convenient Food Mart #3022, 366 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, June 2. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Pre-packaged hoagies purchased from another facility and offered for sale in the grab and go refrigeration unit are not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement to include sub ingredients, net weight, distributed by statement and/or nutritional facts.Pre-packaged hoagies purchased from another facility and offered for sale in the grab and go refrigeration unit are not labeled to clearly indicate any “Big 8” allergen ingredients and/or the allergen warning statement.

Curry Donuts, 733 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, June 2. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Buildup of dried icing/batter on floor stand mixer under mixer head and on framing. Hand-wash sink in the prep area is draining very slowly. The facility will call today to have someone repair. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair.Observed water leaking at the water line under the hand-wash sink in the men’s restroom with water pooling on the floor. The facility is going to call someone today to make repairs. The door located in the mixer room, leading to the outside of the food facility has a gap with visible light at the floor/door junction and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.

Ben & Jerry’s, Mohegan Sun, 1280 Hwy. 315 Suite 1237, Wilkes-Barre, June 3. Type 2 Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Dunkin’ Donuts, 3970 Memorial Hwy., Dallas, June 3. Opening inspection; in compliance.

Jacs Creamery & Eatery, 3250 Rte. 118, Dallas, June 3. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed a dried food residue on the blade of the post can opener blade. The post can opener was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. Observed dried food residue on the blade and blade guard of the deli slicer. The slicer was broken down, cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the restroom to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign was posted during this inspection. The facility has an employee who has completed a 3 year food handlers course and not the 5 year food managers course. The facility will have an employee complete the 5 year food managers course within 90 days. The facility will email to this inspector or fax/mail to the Region 3 office, proof of registration and payment for the course within 10 days. The employee will obtain a certificate within 90 days and will email to this inspector or fax/mail to the Region 3 Field Office a copy of the certificate upon obtaining the certificate.

Modern Market, 1179 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, June 3. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed a buildup of residue on plastic shelves in reach-in coolers.

China II, 58 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, June 6. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violation: Florescent light tube cover in rear food prep area is out of end cap/florescent light tube above small chest freezer in rear storage area is not shielded.

Cosenza’s Pizza, 8001 Bear Creek Blvd., Bear Creek, June 6. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Dupont Mini Mart #1, 289 Main St., Dupont, June 6. Opening inspection; in compliance. Violations: Restroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins. Toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Med. Center, 1000 E. Mountain Drive, Wilkes-Barre, June 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed multiple deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.

Gerrity’s Supermarket #492, 2020 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, June 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Turkey, ham, cheeses, chick peas, imitation crab food was held in the cold hold salad bar at 47 and 51 degrees F in the deli area, rather than 41 degrees F or below as required. It was determined that the food was in the salad bar since approximately 7 a.m. The foods were voluntarily discarded/ denatured by the facility during this inspection. The facility called to have the cold hold unit repaired. The repairman came and repaired the unit during this inspection and it is now holding at 35-37 degrees F. The cold hold refrigeration unit (salad bar)is not holding 41 degrees F or below. The refrigeration repairman came during the inspection and made repairs the unit is now holding food at 35 -37 degrees F. Observed an accumulation of dried food residue on the under surface of the gear box ( a non food contact surface) of the red Hobart mixer located in the bakery. Observed an accumulation of dust/dirt dried food particles in many crevices and mechanical parts (non-food contact surfaces) of the dough roller in the bakery. Observed a buildup of static dust on the fan guard of the pedestal fan in the deli which was blowing in the direction of the deli meat slicers. Observed an accumulation of dust/dirt on the top surface of the dough rolling machine in the bakery.

Modern Lanes, 1948 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, June 6. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Working container of cleaner taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Container labeled. Person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Observed pieces of black debris in the ice in the ice machine in the closet. Machine was turned off and will be cleaned and sanitized prior to use. In-use food ingredient container, in the kitchen area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Container labeled. Observed ice scoop stored on top of the ice machine on an unclean surface. Interior of microwave, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Microwave cleaned. Observed an accumulation of residues on the dispensing nozzles on the soda machine. Nozzles were cleaned and sanitized. Observed a buildup of residues on the surfaces above and around the dispensing nozzles on the soda machine. Observed a buildup of cheese residue on exterior surfaces of the cheese sauce machine. Observed a buildup of grease and dust on the ventilation hoods and on the shelves below fryers. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the restrooms to remind food employees to wash their hands. Signs were provided. P

Rite Aid #1632, 20 S. River St., Plains Twp., June 6. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Sleepy Hollow Golf Center, 1303 St. Johns Rd., Drums, June 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: 13 Gallons of Dairy Ice Cream mix and 1- 1/2 gallon of whole milk stored in cooler are 52 degrees F for an undetermined amount of time. All items were voluntarily disposed due to time/temperature abuse. Bev Aire cooler is showing 50 degrees F ambient air temperature inside. Unit was emptied of time/temperature controlled for safety foods. Unit not to be used until able to maintain 41 degrees F minimum temperature. Three-basin sink has buildup of mineral deposits in basins.

Star Asia Buffet, 400 Rt., 315, Suite 220, Pittston, June 7. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed multiple working containers of cleaners in the kitchen area not labeled with common name. Containers labeled. Facility is not testing and logging the pH of each batch of prepared sushi rice. pH of the rice was tested during this inspection and was within acceptable limits. facility was directed to follow procedure as outlined in the HACCP plan. Observed multiple food ingredient containers in the cooking area not labeled with the common name. Containers were labeled. Observed a buildup of dust on the fan guards in the walk-in coolers. Food employee observed storing clean food equipment while wet, and not allowing time for draining and/or air-drying.

Vino’s Deli, 569 Blackman St., Wilkes-Barre, June 7. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats. Food in the reach in freezer in the prep area stored open with no covering. Items were covered. Observed raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods in the reach-in cooler in the sales area. Eggs were moved. Observed multiple in use food ingredient containers in the cooking area not labeled with the common name. Chili sauce was held at 127 degrees F, in the prep area, rather than 135 degrees F or above as required. Food was heated to 165 degrees F and placed in hot hold unit. Refrigerator shelves have deteriorating coating exposing rusty surfaces underneath that are no longer smooth and easily cleanable. Blade on the post can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Can opener was cleaned. Observed a buildup of dust on the fan guard in the reach-in cooler in the sales area. Toilet room does not have a self-closing door. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.
