BEAR CREEK TWP. — The Tim Tebow Foundation, a Jacksonville, Florida non-profit organization, purchased three parcels of land in the township in late May, according to Luzerne County recorder of deeds records. Records show land was purchased from William D. and Jeanie E. Haas.
Jeanie owns the Bear Creek Cafe, 98 White Haven Road, Bear Creek Village.
An address search showed the buyer of the land, FHL LLC, matches the mailing address of the Tim Tebow Foundation. FHL purchased more than 3,000 acres of land split over three parcels.
The largest parcel of land, 1,751 acres, was bought for $5.15 million and lies between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Bear Creek Boulevard. Two additional parcels were bought for $1 each. One parcel along White Haven Road is 1,253 acres and almost seven acres were purchased on Railroad Lane — a road which runs through the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Bear Creek Boulevard land.
Plans for the land are unknown.
A secretary of the Tim Tebow Foundation said no one could speak on record about the foundation’s purchase until the Executive Director Erik Dellenback, who is out of town, is brought up to speed on the purchase.
According to the website, the foundation founded by Tebow, a quarterback selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft who also played for the New York Jets and had brief stints with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles, was created to show “God’s love to children around the world.” There are seven branches of the Tim Tebow Foundation, including Night to Shine, which hosts proms for special needs individuals and W15H, which allows children with life-threatening illnesses to meet Tebow.
Calls to Bear Creek Township officials and William and Jeannie Haas were not returned Friday.
