The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Petrini’s Pasta Products Inc., 400 Church St., Jessup, Jan. 5. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Accumulation of dust and old food residue on the non-food contact surfaces of shelving in walk- in cooler. Observed slow/clogged drain at the the hand-wash sink in the prep area.

Rossi’s Ristorante, 150 S. Main St., Archbald, Jan 5. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employee is not using available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine sanitizer concentration. Non-food contact surfaces (ice machine & top dishwasher machine) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Dollar General #16162, 281 Route 435, Clifton Township, Jan. 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Happy Family Restaurant, 253 Route 435, S&H Plaza, Suite 6, Clifton Township, Jan. 6. Complaint inspection; in compliance. Violations: Raw shell eggs stored above vegetables in the walk-in cooler. The eggs were placed on the bottom shelf. Observed a 50 lb. bag of onions stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. The onions were placed on a shelf.

Joe’s Kwik Mart, 1435 N. Washington Ave., Scranton, Jan. 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: two quarts of milk out of date, discarded two quarts of milk, employee dumped down sink and discarded container.

La Padrino’s Pizzeria, 7 Kennedy Drive, Archbald, Jan. 6. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Heavy-duty oven cleaner was stored on the same shelf with food, in the storage area. Employee observed chewing gum in the food preparation area. Observed paddle attachment for mixer stored on floor next to mixer. Time in lieu of temperature being used in the food facility to control ready-to-eat potentially hazardous foods, pizza,without written procedures or documentation to verify disposition of food. Interior surface of hood has an accumulation of grease and dust. Loose rubber door gaskets observed on the walk-in cooler unit. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Can opener had old dried food residue on the blade. Non-food contact surfaces (refrigerator) not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and old flour debris. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the kitchen area. Soap was not available at the hand-wash sink in the kitchen area.

Olde Town Coffee, 452 Main St., Archbald, Jan. 6. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: The person in charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. A food employee was observed touching bread, a ready-to-eat food with bare hands. Eggs are served under-cooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. A copy was provided for corrective action. Three-bay sink/service sink located at front service area had a black mold-like residue on it and was not clean to sight and touch. A service sink needs to be maintained, attractants for insects minimized, and contamination of food and equipment by accumulated soil prevented. Liquid wastes generated during cleaning must be disposed of in a sanitary manner to preclude contamination of food and food equipment. Observed old food residue and food spills encrusted on a non-food contact surface of refrigerator, shelving and cabinets soap dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the kitchen area. Food facility kitchen area needs mechanical ventilation due to smoke, cooking odors, grease. Mechanical exhaust ventilation equipment shall be provided over all cooking equipment as required to effectively remove cooking odors, smoke, steam, grease and heat Kitchen floor and front service area of the food facility is dirty, and in need of cleaning. Unused boxes stored in kitchen area, should be removed from food facility. Approximately 8-12 fruit flies/drain flies observed around and in the three-bay sink/service sink in front service area.

Comfort Inn Clarks Summit, 811 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, Jan. 9. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Working container in ware-wash area, used for storing a chemical taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. The container was discarded during this inspection. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the employee rest room area to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign was posted during this inspection.

Dalton Country Store, 111 Main St.,Dalton, Jan. 9. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violation: Ambient air temperature of the large reach-in refrigerator was noted at 54 degrees F during this inspection. Owner will have unit serviced and will not use unit unless it can maintain a temperature of 41 degrees F or less.

Dunkin’ Donuts, 927 S. State St., Clarks Summit, Jan. 9. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food dispensing utensils in sugar and ice observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food. Utensils were re-positioned during this inspection. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the men’s rest room area to remind food employees to wash their hands. A sign was posted during this inspection.

McDonald’s #18323, 411 Main St., Old Forge, Jan. 9. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Microwave had old food debris and splash on interior ceiling. Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand-wash sink in the kitchen area. Brooms stored behind soft serve machine, with potential to contaminate food equipment.

Ray’s Shur Save, 431 Lawrence St., Old Forge, Jan. 10. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: There was no consumer advisory posted to alert consumers that raw or under cooked fish or shellfish may increase risk of food borne illness. A sign was posted during this inspection. Rust shelves observed on kitchen walk in cooler. Non-food contact surfaces of rolling racks in bakery area not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.

Starbucks Coffee #11937, 1131 Northern Blvd., Clarks Summit, Jan. 10. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employees observed in prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Food facility does not have a maximum registering thermometer or temperature indicator to monitor hot water of its ware-washer. Mops are not being hung to air dry.
