The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in multiple refrigeration units. Observed a build up of grease and dust on the hoods above the cooking area. Taco Bell #28965, 110 S. Wyoming Ave., Kingston, March 6, Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: The rear outside surface of the ice chute on the fountain soda machine, non food contact surface, has a small amount of pink slime on it. The ice chute was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.

White Haven Family Diner, 302 Main St., White Haven, March 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food employees observed in dish wash area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Wooden frame work in walk in cooler is constructed of unsealed wood. Bob Evans #442, 920 Schechter Drive, Wilkes-Barre, March 6. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violation: Observed a build up of grease on the ventilation system behind the cooking area. Observed a build up of residue on the take out container shelf alongside the ice machine.

Chili’s Grill and Bar, 375 Wyoming Valley Mall, Wilkes-Barre, March 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Mashed potato and beef held at 108-112 °F, in the prep area, rather than 135°F or above as required. Foods were reheated. Observed rust and pitting on the metal shelves in the walk in cooler. Food pans stored in clean storage areas observed with food and sticker residues on surfaces. Containers and pans were placed at dishwasher to be cleaned and sanitized. Observed a build up of dust on the fan guard in a refrigeration unit in the prep area. Observed a build up of food residues along the back edges of the Bain Marie in the prep area. Observed a build up of old syrup residue on the surface around the nozzles on the beverage machine. Observed clean food equipment on the clean equipment storage racks, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Observed a build up of black residue in the corners and along the edges of the floor in multiple areas. Past Inspection(s)

Dollar Tree #2240, 1050 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, March 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: The receiving door leading to the outside located in the storage room of the food facility has a gap in the lower right corner at the floor/ door junction (with visible light) and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals.

Freeland Party Service, 17 Foster Ave., Freeland, March 6. Regular inspection; in compliance.

House of Nutrition, 50 Main St., Luzerne, March 6. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Raw eggs store above ready to eat food such as butter in the reach-in refrigeration unit. The eggs were moved to the bottom shelf during this inspection. Observed a dried black residue on the post can open blade. The post can opener was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.

Crystal Food Barbeque, 44 E. Broad St., Hazleton, March 7. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Floor tiles in food prep areas are deteriorated / cracked / broken / missing pieces.

Donut Connection, 175 N. Cedar St., Hazleton, March 7. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Gumba’s Pizza, 102 Pittston Ave., Pittston, March 7. Regularl inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Observed small plastic cups with no handles used as scoops and stored in bulk ingredients. Observed a build up of food residue on the shelves in both reach in coolers. Observed a build up of old food residue on the blade of the post can opener. Can opener was cleaned. Observed a build up of food residue on the non food contact surfaces of the deli slicer. Observed an accumulation of food residues and debris under equipment and along walls throughout the facility. Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests from control devices frequently, as evidenced by observed old mouse in pest control device in the storage area. Mouse was discarded.

Perkin’s Restaurant, 304 Route 315, Pittston, March 7. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Price Chopper #190, 180 West Side Mall, Edwardsville, March 7. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations; The quaternary ammonia concentration in the sanitizing solution of the 3-bay warewash sink was 100 ppm, rather than 200-400 ppm as stated on the manufacturers use directions. It was noted that the bag of sanitizer was empty. A new bag of sanitizer was applied and the sanitizer concentration was 200 PPM. The water temperature of the wash compartment of the 3 bay sink in -Bagel making areat was 105 degrees F, less than 110 degrees F, as required. The water heater was reset and the water tested at 114 degrees F The water temperature of the wash compartment of the 3 bay sink in the deli food prep area was 73 degrees F, less than 110 degrees F, as required.The water heater was rwsaet and water tested at 114 degrees F The inside surface of the ice chute on the fountain soda machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink slimy mold like residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The chute was removed, cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. The hand wash sink located in the deli (food prep) area does not have water at a temperature of at least 100 degrees F. Water temperature was 63 degrees F. It was noted that a table was pushed against the switch and turned the water heater booster off. The switch was turned on and the water tested at 138 degrees F.

Ramada Inn #11568, 1221 N. Church St., Hazleton, March 7. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Equipment shelving in kitchen has build up of dust.

Valley Country Club, 79 Country Club Lane, Sugarloaf, March 7. Change of owner inspection; in compliance. Violations: Surface coating on racks in walk in cooler is deteriorated. Fan guards in walk in cooler have build up of static dust mold.

Happy Garden, 32 Village Center, Phoenix St., Duryea, March 8. Regular inspsection; in compliance. Violations: Food in multiple refrigeration units stored open with no covering. Foods were covered. Shelves in the walk in cooler are rusting and no longer easily cleanable. Observed a build up of food residue on the shelves in the walk in cooler. Shelves were cleaned at time of inspection. Observed a build up of food residue along the edges of the Bain Marie. Observed clean utensils stored in a soiled container. Past Inspection(s)

Ho Yi, 220 East End Center, Wilkes-Barre, March 8. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed an accumulation of food residue on the exterior of multiple bulk ingredient containers. Observed an accumulation of food residue on the handles and exterior of equipment. Observed an accumulation of debris and black residues on the floor under equipment in the kitchen.

Komensky’s Market, 412 Main St., Duryea, March 8. Regular inspection; out of compliance. Violations: Wooden shelves in the walk in cooler are not a smooth and easily cleanable surface. Observed a build up of food residue on the shelves in the walk in cooler. Observed a build up of dust on the ceiling in the walk in cooler.

Subway #12463, 170 Laurel Plaza, Pittston, March 8. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed ice cream scoop in the prep that is deteriorating and no longer easily cleanable. Scoop was discarded. Ware wash sink has hose attachments that are hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap.
